Dia 26/Day 26 - Angra dos Reis

Jan 31, 2018 -

[ ] Here we are, writing our last blog of the northeast 2 trip! Can you believe it? We can’t! It feels like just yesterday we were eating our first dinner together, just getting to know each other! Now here we are 26 days later, closer than ever. Today was a day for reflection and goodbyes. We started our day in Angra dos Reis where we spent our morning on a boat, swimming at several different amazing beaches. The water was crystal clear, and the sun was shinning bright! You know what else was crystal clear? The love we all have for each other. It’s so amazing how much you can grow to love people in such a short period of time. After our amazing morning on the boat, we went to have lunch, and eat our last bowls of açaí together. We then started our journey, to our last stop on our awesome trip: São Paulo! The trip from Angra Dos Reis to São Paulo was about 7 hours, so most of us used this time to sleep since we were so tired from swimming. Tonight we shared our last meal, it was one of the most depressing meals of our lives! (But the food was amazing.) And now, here we are, unfortunately writing our last blog of the Terra Brasil Northeast-2 trip. One month of laughs and jokes. These memories will last a lifetime. To close this blog we’d like to first thank God for allowing our lives to lead up to this moment and for his continued blessings. Without Him, none of this would be possible. We’d like to thank our families both here and in our native countries for their support and love. Thank you for being our inspirations. Last but not least, we’d like to thank Terra Brasil and all it’s staff for this amazing opportunity. Uncle Stanley, Aunt Isabela, Aunt Carmen, Uncle Sérgio, and Uncle William: we appreciate everything you’ve done for us during these past 26 days. We could go on and on, but unfortunately we have a curfew and Uncle Stanley is coming back to the lobby to make sure we go to our rooms. And what was our favorite saying on the trip? That’s one secret we’ll never tell. You know you love us. XOXO

Xoxo 😘

Dia 25/Day 25 - Rio de Janeiro/Angra dos Reis

January 30, 2018

By Breeanna, Sophie, and Letifah

Hello!! Today was our last day spent in Rio de Janeiro. We woke up and the weather was just like our moods, sad! The sky was crying more than we were, but we didn’t let that stop us! We started our day by visiting the Largos dos Pracinhas, Escadaria Selaron, and the Museu de República. For lunch, we were able to walk around the center of Rio. Of course, none of us brought umbrellas, so were were soaking wet, but we still enjoyed our time. Some of us ate at McDonalds, KFC, Subway, and almost all of us bought coffee at Starbucks. After lunch, we said our goodbye to Rio. We drove 3 hours to our second to last stop, Angra dos Reis. Our hotel was right on the beach, and was very similar to the hotel in Maceió. We relaxed and some swam in the pool and ocean. This night was our last luau together. We dressed up and had a very good dinner provided by the hotel. After dinner everyone exchanged pins and signed flags and wrote little messages in notebooks. Some tears were definitely shed tonight. We also had our daily meeting, which was very entertaining because the DJ changed Stanley’s voice on the microphone. We voted our last chupeta winner, and just as he won the first chupeta, he won the last, Carlos. We all won a certificate for finishing the Northeast 2 2018 trip. The people that we voted for the Best Exchange Student, Best Smile, Best Singer, etc. also won their certificates. After our meeting we were free to eat the different fruits and dance to the music by the DJ. Some went swimming and some sat and talked. Stanley thankfully made our curfew 3:30 am, so we were able to spend more time together. As the trip is coming to an end, everyone is sad to leave the most amazing month of our lives. We all hope that sometime in the future we will be able to see each other, whether that be here in Brasil, or in our native countries.

Dia 24/Day 24 - Rio de Janeiro

January 28, 2018

By Friederike Decker and Breeanna Runyan

Today for sure was a marvelous day. We woke up and ate our “homemade breakfast” with the food we bought from the supermarket. After breakfast we walked a couple blocks down to the most famous beach in Rio...Copacabana!! Today was a perfect day for the beach. It was very cloudy, but it never rained. It was especially nice for the people who have bad sunburns from previous sunny days on the beach. The waves at Copacabana are the strongest out of all the beaches in Rio, and us exchange students sure took our chance to get dragged across the sea floor. There were life guards to make sure nobody swam too far out in the water, and our group had a rule of only going into water that went up to our waists. Some articles of bathing suits were almost lost in the sea, but everyone stayed safe and had fun.

After the beach, we went to lunch, which was included for the first time in a while. We ate a hearty meal, and then we were off to the Christ Redeemer! The weather was also perfect for this attraction today, not so hot and sunny it was unbearable, and not to cloudy that we couldn’t see the top of the Christ. To get up the mountain, we took a little red train. We were able to see the city of Rio while ascending, but the view was much better at the top. After the train, we had to walk a short way up the stairs. When our group saw the statue, we screamed and said “Look...it’s Jesus!” All of us were able to get amazing pictures with the statue and of course our flags. We did one group photo, and after we were free to look around and take more photos. It’s very cool being in a popular touristic area. Many of us met people from all over the world and held conversations, which is always awesome.
After we left the Christ Redeemer, we went to a pizzaria for dinner, which was also included. We went to the fair on Copacabana beach after dinner. We bought souvenirs and gifts for our real and host family’s. There, with luck I suppose, we met up with the exchange students touring Brasil with another travel company. Many of us Terra Brasil students met many friends, from our countries or even from our same schools and Rotary Districts. It was very cool to see the exchange students meet their friends and talk. Almost everyone bought something from the fair, and some have said that they’ve spent too much money on souvenirs, but then again they say “Well, we are only in Brasil once”.
When we got back to the hotel, we had our nightly meeting, and talked about what we will be doing tomorrow and the next days. It seems so hard to believe that we will be done with the Northeast 2 trip in just 2 days. I have a feeling many tears will be shed when the last day comes. But for now, we will enjoy the time we have together.

Dia 23/Day 23 - Rio de Janeiro

This program is bought to you by; Latifa Smith and Gracie Galan inc. We interrupt your scheduled programming to bring you “Northeast 2 2018” takes Rio De Janeiro!!! Today marked our first official day of adventure in Rio. We started our day bright and early, with the most unanticipated adventure of them all! GROCERY SHOPPING! At least we learned to spend R$200.00 wisely, instead of spending it all on Açaí (sorry mom and dad). After our dreadful, yet somewhat enjoyable time at the supermarket, we headed back to our hotel to quickly whip up some breakfast. I guess now you can call us master chefs! After our lovely morning we finally got “On the Road Again.” We hit the streets of Rio to see the biggest graffiti wall in the world and buy a few souvenirs, before heading to the “Museum of Tomorrow.” While there, we learned about how humans are affecting our world. Following the museum, we went to grab a bite to eat, before going to see the stadium where some of he most memorable moments of football took place; Maracanã Stadium. After visiting the stadium, we went to the amazing “Sugar Loaf.” We took more amazing photos and met some cool people as well, (but not cooler than Uncle Stanley and Aunt Isabela). It was an amazing way to end our first day in Rio De Janeiro!

Depois da nossa manhã maravilhosa, finalmente chegamos "On the Road Again."

Hello readers,
our second day in Vitória started with an early breakfast at 7 AM. After hopping into the Bus we made our way to the Beach. Afterwards our Group  headed to a closed off area with a  Garden, food trucks, and rope swings. Some of our party had the opportunity to go surfing. Before entering the water we received instructions to prepare us for surfing. The Hour-Long Lesson proved to be difficult for many, but some got the Hang of it. The water was very cold, but was fun to swim in none the less. On the Beach, many drank from coconuts   or went back to the Garden for some refreshing juice. Additionally, the Garden‘s food Trucks Sold delicious Burgers, as well as some vegan options. Around three-o-clock, we all boarded the Bus, and were on our way to the Hotel. Dia 22 / Day 22 - Vitória / Rio de Janeiro

January 27th, 2018:
Alo!!!!
Today was a day filled with anticipation for Rio de Janeiro. We woke up at 6 a.m., ate breakfast at 7 a.m., and left for Rio at 7:30 a.m. Most of us slept on the bus until we arrived at the rest stop called Oasis for lunch. The food was very delicious. They served churrasco, salgadinho, and had fresh juice. Unlike many of the other rest stops we have been to while on this trip, this place was very nice. The bathrooms were big and clean, and as Letifa said, “Now this is a restroom for women!” After lunch, we went “on the road again”. Some people went back to sleep, listened to music, held conversations, and some watched movies downloaded off of Netflix.
It started to rain while we were on the bus, and when we arrived it was cloudy. But, even the rain couldn’t stop our excitement for Rio. When Stanley said “Alô! Estamos chegando no Rio” in the microphone, everyone who was sleeping woke up, and threw open the curtains to find us crossing a bridge, entering Rio. We screamed and cheered. And Letifa literally cried of joy and happiness. On our way to the hotel, we passed Copacabana for the first time. The bus had to be parked two blocks away from our hotel, so we hurried, grabbed our suit cases and crossed the street. Most of our apartment rooms have 4-6 people in them. We each have a kitchen, and will be making our own breakfasts while here.
For dinner, we went to a restaurant called Restaurante Temperarte. The food was once again delicious. Some customers seemed to enjoy our company, they took videos of us as we were being our playful selves. It was Thomas’s 19th birthday today, so we sang to him in the restaurant. When we left the restaurant, Sergio, one of the bus drivers, had a huge orange cone in front of the bus. Apparently when we arrived at the restaurant and were leaving the bus, a cars side view mirror hit Sergio’s back. So he took extra precaution when returning to the bus!
We held the daily meeting in the hotel, and received our new Northeast shirts. These shirts have the map of our trip, and the name and flag of each exchange student on the back. The story that won the pacifier was of when Alix tried to cut William’s hair yesterday, but cut it too short and uneven, so sadly, William won. After the meeting, we had free time until our curfew at midnight. Tomorrow is a big day!

27 de Janeiro, 2018:

Alo!!!!
Realizamos a reunião diária no hotel e recebemos nossas novas camisas Nordeste.

After the sanctuary we went to a place called "Modelo Market" and we bought lots of things. After the market we went to have lunch and we also bought some souvenirs on the street. After lunch we went to "Pelourinho’s Historical Center". It was really beautiful and interesting, one of the churches were made with real gold, and lots of brightness. After the historical center, we walked the street until we got to the plaza where Michael Jackson filmed his video "They Don't Care About Us." (Gracie cried of happiness.) After, we had dinner, where we ate typical food from Bahia. At the end of the day, we went to watch a show that was really amazing!

Dia 15 / Day 15 - Recife/Canindé de São Francisco

Hello dear and loyal readers,
Here are the Alixs to tell you about our wonderful day of the 20th of January.
Today we woke up early to leave Recife and go on our next destination. Breakfast was very good, 5h30 in front of the sea. We had to pick up the bus 6h but because of some late people (asleep in fact). We left Recife at 6h30.
After, everyone, tired of this really short night was sleeping again in our loved bus. It was a comfortable nap with covers, pillows and sweet dreams.
At 10h30 the bus woke up or at least the lower part ... We started playing Mexicans games and then Stanley (coordinator of our hearts) began a joke ... "this is the joke of the tip, watch and tell me who will be". It was cool to see people don't understand and focus on different theories to understand.
14h30, finally we came near the River São Francisco for lunch. We had lunch there and then we went to a catamaran (those big ones that have nothing do with those of France ...). After an hour's boat trip we got a natural pool in the middle of the River. This place was beautiful too. We loved the landscapes and the views of this place.
We went to the hotel very fast to put the backpacks in the rooms and we went to have dinner in stalls close to the hotel. After dinner was the traditional meeting of each day. Then it was spare time until eleven o'clock and then everyone in the rooms and ready to sleep because tomorrow let's get up really early ... But that will be another story ...

Dia 14 / Day 14 - Natal/Olinda/Recife

Bom dia galera.

Dia 13 / Day 13 - Natal

Boa noite!

Hello and good evening everyone!
Simplified version: today was a good day.
Detailed version: Today was a good day even though some of us had near-death experiences and other ones are red as lobsters (I'm looking at you, europe).  We went buggy-driving in the Dunes/desert near the city of Natal. The driver was very crazy or road-raged and most definitely was out to kill some of us. One exchange student lost a teeth  (looking at you again, europe). After this, we were left to our own devices at the beach where we simmered in the sun, drank coconut water and defended our tables from the rising tide. Day 2 in natal and day 13 of the trip of a lifetime.

Dia 12 / Day 12 - Natal

Day 12

Hey ya’ll, today was another interesting day on the northeast trip. We started our second day in Natal by visiting the Brazilian Space Agency. We were only there for 10 minutes, but it was still very interesting. From there we went to walk around the biggest Cashew Tree in the world and we were also able to buy a few things from the vendors all around. We then went to have lunch. After lunch, we made our way to paddle boarding lessons. It was very hard to actually stand up, but it was a very cool experience. After paddle boarding lessons, we were told that there was a surprise waiting for us after dinner. We were all very intrigued, we made our way to dinner and patiently waited for the surprise. The coordinators then told us that we were gonna have a Luau on the beach. Everyone was so happy and excited! When we arrived they had fruits and drinks for us and a really awesome DJ! It was an awesome party and we all enjoyed it very much! We danced a lot of funky and wished happy birthday to all the people who have had birthdays on the trip. Towards the end of the party we all walked on the beach and took lots of photos, it was a great night!

Dia 12

Dia 11 / Day 11 - Maceió - Natal

Bom dia galera!

Hey friends !
Hope y'all doing good !
Today was a pretty calm day in our Northeast trip.
We woke up at 6:30, took breakfast at 7:30 and almost forgot our clothes drying at the hotel ahah. Then we left Macéio at 8:30 and then it was the endless road in the middle of the Brazilian countryside with highway, music and slumber.
The coolest time is when we can sleep, chat and listen to music as much as we want. After all what's 10h travelling when you're with friends?!
At 14:30 we had lunch in a nice restaurant and when we came back in the bus we all let the sleep get to us.
At 19h15 we arrived in the beautiful city of Natal.
We travelled 541km in total and ended this day with a nice dinner in company of our savior: Freddy ❤!

Dia 09 / Day 9 - Maceió

One more day went by on our northeast-trip. The day started with breakfeast at the hotel in the early morning, and then taking the bus directly to the beach “Praia de Franceis”. After enjoying the beautiful view of the beach, we got separated in groups and sailed with small boats to the ocean. There we swam in the clear water and had a lot of fun.
We went back to the beach, and we got time to buy sourviniers and enjoyed the nice weather.
We ate lunch at 12:00, and then we went to our surfing class in the afternoon. Not everyone went to the class, so some students just relaxed on the beach or went shopping. At the  surfing class we had different teachers, who helped us to chatching the waves- which was pretty hard!
In the night we ate dinner at the hotel and got ready for the next day.
Overall it was a nice day in the northeast with new experiences and a lot of fun!
Thanks for reading our blog!

Dia 08 / Day 8 - Lençóis - Maceió

Aloo! Graças a Deus. Abraços galera. Tchau tchau. Até mais se Deus quiser.
Beijos!

Aloo! If you are reading this, say electricity because we don’t have any kkk. Today we stayed on the bus for 15 hours. We woke up at 6am to have breakfast and be ready to leave by 630. We were honestly dying of sleepiness, but we got to sleep on the bus the whole day, so its okay. When we arrived in Lençóis, we went to eat pizza at 10pm. Then we went to the hotel but there was no electricity. We stayed outside the rooms, dying of heat and crying with no Wi-Fi. So, we want to say sorry to all the parents that were waiting for the blog, but it’s not a problem because we got to know each other better, without distractions. Thank God. Hugs. Bye bye. See you later, if God allows.

Hello people today was a really cool day even though we really walked a lot, I think no one had ever walked that much in their life. We woke up at 6:30 to have breakfast at 7:00 and be ready to leave at 7:30. We had to walk from the hotel to the bus and cross the Lençóis river. We arrived an hour later to a “Pai Inacio Hill” were we hiked all the way up to get an awesome view, we took a lot of cool pictures and enjoyed the walk.
Alejandra had the “jaggy porreta” and we all threw ourselves on the floor and started screaming while Abby fell on a water puddle. After that we went down really really tired but still we the attitude to continue the trip, although we were starving and ready to get to the city for lunch.
When we got to the centrum we ate and walked around the beautiful Lençóis streets. At 14:00 we left (by foot again) to “riverão do meio” which is a natural place with a water slide where we swam, jumped from the rocks on the top and slide on the natural slide.
On our way back to the hotel we were very hungry once again. We really thought the road had no end, oh my God I think we walked about 11 km in total.
After arrincona to the hotel and eating dinner we had our daily night reunion where we make te change of “chupeta”. This time Theo’s story was the funniest so he won the shame trophy. To end the night we played a game that helped us remember the other exchange students names, we had so much fun. After a while we had our curfew and everyone went to sleep in order to rest and wait for whatever awaits for us tomorrow.
Kisses everyone, goodbye!

Today we woke up really early because we had to leave the city of Luis Eduardo Magalhães to go to Chapada Diamantina in Lençóis. We woke up at 4:30 and left the hotel at 5:30.
For the lunch, we stopped at 11am in a little restaurant on the road. We had 40 minutes to eat.
After 4 hours of driving, we arrived at the moutain Pai Ignazio and took a lot of wonderful pictures but we didn’t have chance because the weather was really bad so we couldn’t climb the beautiful mountain we were looking at.
So we went to the hotel earlier, the bus couldn’t bring us until the hotel so we had to walk 20 minutes.
We had dinner at the hotel and after that a funk class. That was so amazing!
In our meeting today, we had the first person who won the “chupeta de jogo” Jegue Porreta, Carlos.
And we ended this day in the swimmimg pool.

Dia 04 / Day 04 - Brasília & Luis Eduardo Magalhães

Tue / 9 / Jan
Day 4
Hey guys, it´s Jacob and Gracie, your favorite Americans.
Today we woke up at an ungodly hour of 7 o´clock. First we went to get breakfast in our lovely hotel. The hotel was lit because it had everything to help us acclimate to the wonderful city of Brasilia, our first stop on our adventure of a lifetime. After we woke up went to see the Torre de TV, but we couldn´t go up because they were taking down the Christmas decorations. Despite this we took some cute photos in front of the “I love Brasilia” sign. Everyone enjoyed taking the cheesy pictures that trips like this are made for (follow us on Instagram @cording99 and @ggalan427.) After we left the tower we were privileged enough to see the JK memorial, who made Brasilia possible. While there we got yelled at because we kept touching all the stuff but that´s only because it was so cool and interesting, but that´s beside the point. After the memorial we boarded the bus once again to head for lunch two hours later to stretch our hammies. After thoroughly stretching our hammies and filling our bellies, we boarded the bus to relax our gluteus maximi. Then we sat on the bus for another 5 hours until we arrived in Luis Eduardo Magalhaes. We arrived in the hotel for a quick dip in the pool for an hour and went for Pizza. Then we came back, socialized, and now we are writing this blog for you fine people. Thank you for reading and catch us tomorrow in Lençois.

Xoxo Jacob and Gracie.

Dia 4
Beijinhos.
