January 27th, 2018:
Alo!!!!
Today was a day filled with anticipation for Rio de Janeiro. We woke up at 6 a.m., ate breakfast at 7 a.m., and left for Rio at 7:30 a.m. Most of us slept on the bus until we arrived at the rest stop called Oasis for lunch. The food was very delicious. They served churrasco, salgadinho, and had fresh juice. Unlike many of the other rest stops we have been to while on this trip, this place was very nice. The bathrooms were big and clean, and as Letifa said, “Now this is a restroom for women!” After lunch, we went “on the road again”. Some people went back to sleep, listened to music, held conversations, and some watched movies downloaded off of Netflix.
It started to rain while we were on the bus, and when we arrived it was cloudy. But, even the rain couldn’t stop our excitement for Rio. When Stanley said “Alô! Estamos chegando no Rio” in the microphone, everyone who was sleeping woke up, and threw open the curtains to find us crossing a bridge, entering Rio. We screamed and cheered. And Letifa literally cried of joy and happiness. On our way to the hotel, we passed Copacabana for the first time. The bus had to be parked two blocks away from our hotel, so we hurried, grabbed our suit cases and crossed the street. Most of our apartment rooms have 4-6 people in them. We each have a kitchen, and will be making our own breakfasts while here.
For dinner, we went to a restaurant called Restaurante Temperarte. The food was once again delicious. Some customers seemed to enjoy our company, they took videos of us as we were being our playful selves. It was Thomas’s 19th birthday today, so we sang to him in the restaurant. When we left the restaurant, Sergio, one of the bus drivers, had a huge orange cone in front of the bus. Apparently when we arrived at the restaurant and were leaving the bus, a cars side view mirror hit Sergio’s back. So he took extra precaution when returning to the bus!
We held the daily meeting in the hotel, and received our new Northeast shirts. These shirts have the map of our trip, and the name and flag of each exchange student on the back. The story that won the pacifier was of when Alix tried to cut William’s hair yesterday, but cut it too short and uneven, so sadly, William won. After the meeting, we had free time until our curfew at midnight. Tomorrow is a big day!

Alo!!!!
Hoje foi um dia cheio de antecipação para o Rio de Janeiro. Acordamos às 6 da manhã, tomamos café da manhã às 7 da manhã e partimos para o Rio às 7:30 da manhã. A maioria de nós dormiu no ônibus até chegar em um lugar chamado Oasis para o almoço. A comida era muito deliciosa. Serviram churrasco, salgadinho e tomaram suco fresco. Ao contrário de muitos dos outros lugares onde fomos durante a viagem, este lugar foi muito bom. Os banheiros eram grandes e limpos, e como Letifa disse: "Agora, isso é um banheiro para as mulheres!" Depois do almoço, fomos "na estrada novamente". Algumas pessoas voltaram a dormir, ouviram música, conversavam e alguns filmes assistiram baixados da Netflix.
Começou a chover enquanto estávamos no ônibus, e quando chegamos estava nublado. Mas, mesmo a chuva não conseguiu parar nossa emoção pelo Rio. Quando Stanley disse "Alô! Estamos chegando no Rio "no microfone, todos os que dormiam acordaram e abriram as cortinas para nos encontrar atravessando uma ponte, entrando no Rio. Nós gritamos e aplaudimos. E Letifa literalmente chorou de alegria e felicidade. No caminho para o hotel, passamos pela Copacabana pela primeira vez. O ônibus tinha que ser estacionado a duas quadras de distância do nosso hotel, então nós nos apressamos, pegaram nossos maletas e cruzamos a rua. A maioria dos nossos apartamentos possui 4-6 pessoas. Cada um de nós tem uma cozinha e faremos nosso próprio café da manhã enquanto estiver aqui.
Para o jantar, fomos a um restaurante chamado Restaurante Temperarte. A comida foi mais uma vez deliciosa. Alguns clientes pareciam desfrutar da nossa empresa, eles levaram vídeos de nós, já que estávamos sendo nosso eu brincalhão. Era hoje o 19º aniversário de Thomas, então cantamos para ele no restaurante. Quando saímos do restaurante, Sergio, um dos motoristas de ônibus, tinha um enorme cone de laranja em frente ao ônibus. Aparentemente, quando chegamos ao restaurante e saímos do ônibus, um espelho de visão lateral de carros atingiu as costas de Sergio. Então ele tomou precauções extras ao retornar ao ônibus!
Realizamos a reunião diária no hotel e recebemos nossas novas camisas Nordeste. Estas camisas têm o mapa da nossa viagem, e o nome e a bandeira de cada estudante de intercâmbio nas costas. A história que ganhou a chupeta foi quando Alix tentou cortar o cabelo de William ontem, mas cortou-o muito curto e desigual, com tanta tristeza, William ganhou. Após a reunião, tivemos tempo livre até o toque de recolher à meia-noite. Amanhã é um grande dia!
